Trout fishing in the Southern Tablelands is also a well kept secret. It ranges from lakes to small trout streams and everything in between, with some of the best spots only accessible on private property.

There are 6 kilometres of trout streams on Markdale itself and it is also close to The Grabine, Pejar Dam and the Crookwell, Lachlan, Abercrombie, Bolong and Burra Rivers.

Unfortunately, the drought years leading up to 2011 caused record lows in the Pejar and Wyangla dams and many dried up creek beds, which decimated the fish population. Now, after a succession of wet years, dams and creeks are being restocked and we look forward to better fishing seasons.
